RESULTS:

  • The tangible results of the SPEED you UP project are listed below;

  • Entrepreneurial hub pilots in which NEET at-risk youth (+15 years) create pop-ups from high school together with local stakeholders.

  • Entrepreneurial hub pilots in which NEET youth (15-24 years) create community-based pop-ups together with local stakeholders.

  • A feasibility study on the continuation of the SPEED-You-UP approach, including a clear business plan for future users.

  • Pilots of a training programme for new cities/regions that will implement SPEED-You-UP entrepreneurial hubs.

REASON:

Increase social innovation development and applications to create more efficient and effective local services to address key social challenges in the 2Seas area.

The number of youth (15-24 years old) not in employment, education or training (NEET) remains significant in the 2Seas area (approx. 10%) (except Holland), with rates in the cities involved in this project well above 15%. A significant proportion of these youth have left school early and are struggling to find sustainable employment. There is a discrepancy between the education system, the labor market and the reality of vulnerable youth. For some youth, this leads to demotivation, loss of self-confidence and ultimately school dropout and unemployment, with long-term negative consequences for their future and society. Existing solutions are fragmented, focus primarily on "cures," and do not lead to closer collaboration among key stakeholders or substantial systemic change. Our challenge is to develop a sustainable shift to a prevention method to meet the needs of the target population while complying with the requirements and

regulations of all stakeholders.

GOALS:

The overall goal is to reduce the number of (at-risk) NEETs by improving their employability through a collaboratively created entrepreneurship program that improves entrepreneurial skills. We will create entrepreneurship hubs both in high schools with a large number of at-risk NEET students and in local communities with a large number of hard-to-reach NEETs. From these hubs, young people will develop and create pop-ups that meet the specific needs of the disadvantaged communities in which they live or attend school. We want to increase their entrepreneurial skills, as well as their self-esteem and motivation. Through this innovative co-created service, we aim to deploy 800 at-risk NEETs, leading to a 25% increase of these at-risk NEETs staying in education or becoming (self-employed), and 800 NEETs, leading to a 25% increase of these NEETs (re)turning to education, training or (self-employment). This will reduce costs for schools, welfare organizations and employment services.
