Energy conservation in industrial and residential buildings has become a major need and challenge in our current European society, due to the need to reduce CO2 emissions and energy use. The EU wants to reduce overall energy consumption by 2% a year. Energy consumption per household should also be reduced by 30% by 2020. Passive Building can be the solution here. Passive Building is a collective term for all ways of building where a good indoor climate is achieved without traditional heating or cooling systems. The construction of a passive building requires extra care. A passive building is: (a) thermally comfortable; (b) has very good indoor air quality; (c) has extremely low energy consumption. Passive Building will become our standard for the future, greatly increasing the demand for new and highly skilled workers in that area, who can apply the techniques of sustainable / renewable energy. It is therefore necessary, that the employers, skilled workers, trainers / teachers and students have good access to up-to-date training and teaching materials, methods and approaches, focusing on both theory and practice. It is also important that these materials, methods and approaches are transparent and valid across the EU.

With this project, the aim is to exchange knowledge between vocational education and vocational education-related organisations on sustainable / renewable energy in the so-called ´Passive Building´ and in particular with regard to photovoltaic panels and solar boilers, heat pumps, energy saving, low temperature heating and ventilation. It is also important that these materials, methods and approaches are transparent and valid across the EU. The project outcome will be that employees, students and unemployed people can improve their skills related to sustainable / renewable energy and will be more successful and competitive in the labour market.
